Synopsis
Anissa is traumatized by the most brutal conflict of the 21st Century: the Syrian Civil War. In 2012, Islamists in Homs terrorize her Christian community and destroy everything in her life. Narrowly escaping death, Anissa restarts her devastated life as a college student in NY. She is bewildered and lost -- a virgin in every sense.
But despite her inexperience with men and life in the United States, Anissa is quickly drawn to two powerful individuals: Michael, the Syrian-Christian American who leads the political effort to protect his community, and Julien, her college professor who runs a $20 billion hedge fund. Complicating matters, Michael is still attached to his ex-girlfriend and Julien is the most sought after bachelor in Manhattan. Anissa's heart and her communal ties pull her in different directions, as she seeks hope and renewal in a dark world.
LIFE shattered her. LOVE empowered her.

Zack Teaser 1

Zack Love graduated from Harvard College, where he studied mostly literature, psychology, philosophy, and film. After college, he moved to New York City and took a corporate consulting job that had absolutely nothing to do with his studies. The attacks of September 11, 2001 inspired him to write a novelette titled "The Doorman," and heightened his interest in the Middle East. A decade later, that interest extended to the Syrian Civil war, which provided the backdrop for his latest work. In late 2013, Zack began releasing his unpublished works of fiction and became a full-time author. He has published comedy, psychological and philosophical fiction, and romance. Zack enjoys confining himself to one genre about as much as he likes trying to sum up his existence in one paragraph.

Megan Cyrulewski is an ordinary person who has faced extraordinary challenges and now wants to inspire people and show them that hope gives them the power to survive anything. Who Am I? is about her journey into post-partum depression, anxiety disorder, panic attacks, visits to the psych ward, divorce, domestic violence, law school, and her courageous struggle to survive with her sanity intact—and how a beautiful little girl emerged from all this chaos.

Megan Cyrulewski has been writing short stories ever since she was ten-years-old.  Eventually she settled into a career in the non-profit sector and then went back to school to get her law degree.  While she was in school, she documented her divorce and child custody battle in her memoir, Who Am I? How My Daughter Taught Me to Let Go and Live Again, which was released on August 2, 2014.  Megan lives in Michigan with her 3-year-old daughter who loves to dance, run, read, and snuggle time with Mommy.  Megan also enjoys her volunteer work with Troy Youth Assistance as the Fundraising Chair on the Board of Directors.

"Who Am I?" Is a difficult book to talk about. Why? Well, because rating someone suffering and struggle is not easy. Megan decided to tell her story and share it with the world as a way to move on and help others. And just because of that she deserves a round of applauses.

In this book Megan tells us about living in an abusive relationship, dealing with a messy divorce, finishing law school and learning to be a parent. The book is a narration of events as she lived them. We have entire conversations, emails and more. With a good use of words and personal reflections the book is fast to read.

Unfortunately there were things I didn't like. I totally understand the way she feels towards her ex-husband but for moments it was too much. I couldn't continue reading what it felt like a list of all the things he did wrong. I know this is normal because I do the same when I'm mad (I know people who are bad parents and being a teacher is easy to get angry at their behavior). I just think that maybe she could have used the book to talk more about how to move on from the relationship. She does it but in few words and pages.

Also, it feels to me she could have shared more about post-partum depression. I'm not being noisy, it's just that as she said, PPD is still a hard topic and many people (myself included) don't know much about it. She gives us an idea of what is like to live with it but I would have liked to hear a bit more.

However, I think Megan deserves credit for taking the matter in her hands and dealing with all the crap life put in her way. The love she feels for her daughter is palpable through the words. And I think the book in general can be helpful for other in her situation. It’s not easy to share your problems, concerns and doubts with the world but Megan can do it with good results.

Review: The Appeal of Evil by @PembrokeSinclai

The Appeal of Evil
Title: The Appeal of Evil
Author: Pembroke Sinclair
Release Date: January 13th 2014
Format: Paperback & Ebook
Publisher: Booktrope Editions
Series: The Road to Salvation #1

ADD TO GOODREADS
Katie wants to invest her heart and soul in love, but she may lose both to Hell.
Katie, a senior in high school, is torn between loving the "good" guy, her childhood friend Wes who makes promises he doesn't keep and abandons her when she needs him the most, and the "bad" guy, the new kid at school Josh who is also a real demon from Hell. Katie wants someone who pays attention to her and puts her first, but what is she willing to give up to find him?

Pembroke Sinclair is a literary jack of all trades, playing her hand at multiple genres. She has written an eclectic mix of fiction ranging from horror to sci-fi and even some westerns. Born in Rock Springs, Wyoming--the home of 56 nationalities--it is no wonder Pembroke ended up so creatively diverse. Her fascination with the notions of good and evil, demons and angels, and how the lines blur have inspired her writing.
Pembroke lives in Laramie, Wyoming, with her husband, two spirited boys, a black lab named Ryder, and a rescue kitty named Alia, who happens to be the sweetest, most adorable kitty in the world! She cannot say no to dessert, orange soda, or cinnamon. She loves rats and tatts and rock and roll and wants to be an alien queen when she grows up.

The war between good and evil is endless and you can find thousands of stories about it. However, when Katie finds herself divided between the two sides an original argument comes to surface.

Katie and Wes have been friends since they were kids and she has always loved him. Despite suffering multiple times because it seems Wes doesn’t love her too, she still tries to be his friend. But when Josh enters the picture, things get a bit dangerous.

Katie is a character difficult to define. She seems so na├»ve at times but also strong and decided so it is hard to say if I like her or not. I enjoyed the fact that she doesn't go for the logical choice she is not the typical "good and nice" heroine. It’s like she had a twisted sense of good and bad.

The love triangle is entertaining. However, for moments the intensity gets lost because she is so focused in only one guy and the other is just a distraction. Maybe in the next book we can see more tension and drama.

The writing is good, the action scenes are easy to follow and the dialogues are natural and believable. I like the internal conversations Katie has in her mind, this are typical teenager behavior and for me are so real. Kids that age spend endless hours figuring out what to do and why.

Another element I enjoyed is how soon in the book Josh identity is revealed. I was reading and asking: “and now what???” luckily the author had it all planned and the action continued.

This is the first of a series so you can imagine some lose ends and questions left unanswered.

If you like YA paranormal with teenager drama and love triangles you should give this book a look.

Kat Scratched by @dtdyllin - Review

Kat Scratched
Title: Kat Scratched
Author: D.T. Dyllin
Release Date: May 3rd 2014
Format: Paperback & E-book

It’s tough being a cat in a dog eat dog world. Something that Katrina Walker learned the hard way being a were-cat raised by a pack of werewolves. And after her taboo love affair with the future Alpha is discovered, Kat has no choice but to leave the only home and man she’s ever loved behind for good. Or so she thought…
Seven years later Kat is forced to return to pack lands and the man she left behind. But Jason Benson has changed, and so has she. Will she find her way back into the arms of her first love, or will James, the mysterious were-cat wriggle his way into her heart?

D.T. Dyllin is a Bestselling Romance Author who writes in both New Adult and Adult genres. She is a member of the RWA (Romance Writers of America) and also her local chapter, the MCRW (Music City Romance Writers).

D.T. was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. (Black & Gold for life, baby!) She now lives in Nashville, Tennessee with her husband and two spoiled GSDs.

The first time I read the two books in this trilogy I ended up feeling angry with Kat and James. Lucky me, when I got this copy, I decided to start over. This is one intense, dramatic and hot ride. If you are planning to read this book get ready to get your emotions shaken up and down.

Kat Scratched is not your classic paranormal romance with sweet and innocent shifters. It has characters that will annoy you, make you scream, cry and laugh. In a world where there is a new surprise in every page, Kat tries to save those she loves and stay true to herself.

This time D.T. Dyllin creates a character with some serious issues. Kat has to face a world she knew nothing about, three hot guys fighting for her love and some people wanting her dead. Nothing easy when you have to deal with being in heat for the first time, coming back with your family after seven years and a mysterious women appearing only in front of you.

The action is at its peak all the time. When a situation get solved another complication takes place. Some turns are breathtaking and just amazing!

As usual the writing is really good. The words just transport you into the world the author creates and the scenarios are well described. As you can read from the blurb, this book has a relevant sexual component and it's fantastic. Some scenes are quite strong but the story requires the level of sexuality it has.

The only thing I didn't enjoy as much as the rest was the end. But only because there were a few things I found predictable, maybe is just that I know where Dara is going when she writes.

Overall, this book is amazing. If you like the author you MUST read it and if you like paranormal romance too.

The Gramm Curse by @CandaceKnoebel - Review

The Gramm Curse (Night Watchmen, #0.5)
Title: The Gramm Curse
Author: Candace Knoebel
Series: Night Watchmen #0.5
Release Date: May 4th 2014
Format: E-book
Publisher: Candace Knoebel
Source: complimentary copy in exchange of an honest review.

ADD TO GOODREADS
** Set before Everlasting, the addicting start to the Night Watchmen Series, The Gramm Curse is a novella told from Jaxen Gramm’s perspective. **
How far is one willing to go for love?

Before finding a love that shakes the entire foundation of his world, Jaxen Gramm only had his Witch, Jezibelle Beaumont, to worry about. He’s her Hunter, and he will do whatever it takes to keep her safe from the curse placed on his bloodline, even if it means keeping her far from his heart.

But when a spell is offered that has the power to remove the curse, temptation clouds the ethical judgment of the Gramm brothers and their Witches.

In this action-packed novella, enter the dark recesses of Jaxen’s mind as he battles with himself over a decision that could not only cost him his life, but the life of fellow Coven members. Reunite with Gavin, Cassie, Mack, and Jezi as they dance around the dangers of a civil war on the brink of beginning.

CandaceCandace Knoebel is the award-winning author of Born in Flames-book one in a young adult fantasy trilogy. She discovered in 2009 through lunch breaks and late nights after putting her kids to bed, a world where she could escape the ever-pressing days of an eight to five Purgatory. And an outlet for all the voices residing in her head. Published by 48fourteen in 2012, Born in Flames went on to win Turning the Pages Book of the Year award in February of 2013. In January of 2014, the last book in the trilogy, From the Embers, was released, thusly completing the trilogy. She now works on the Night Watchmen Series, while guzzling Red Bulls and pretending to be a ninja on Heelys.

The Gramm Curse gives us the oportunity to get into Jaxen's mind. His mind could be describe as a secretive, obscure, depresive place but not for me. I think his mind is only the reflect of a young man trying to hard to cope with an awful curse and what looks like an inevitable destiny.

Set weeks before Evelasting this is a fast, action packed and engaging novella. We can read about the endless tension between Jezibelle and Jax. We witness some good fights against demons and learn more about this amazing world.

I really liked how the author manages to capture the sadness in him. She really creates a character that is real without being annoying or too depresive. You can feel her sorrow, his struggle to find the positive in his situation and the how hard he is hit by Faye (even for a moment).

The writing is really good and the dialogues are entertaining. The timing and pace is perfect for me, summing all to create a really good paranormal novel.

I think you can read this book before or after Everlasting. So if you like NA or YA paranormal you should read this one.
