Paul Russo’s wife just died. While trying to get his family’s life back in order, Paul is being tormented by a demon who is holding his wife's spirit hostage on the other side. His fate is intertwined with an old haunted mansion on the north shore of Long Island called Stillwell Manor. Paul must find clues dating back hundreds of years to set his wife's soul free.
Stillwell is the story of a grieving man. A man who has to deal with losing his wife, raising his kids alone and a strange presence who haunts his dreams and daily life.
It's only been a couple of days since Paul and his three kids had to burry their mother. He then realizes that in order to move on and help the children he needs to get his life back on track.
Paul's sorrow and grief is well described. The author does an outstanding job creating a character that feels human and real. All the characters are great but Paul being the protagonist is even better. His internal struggle is palpable, the way he debates between grieving and giving up opposite to healing is amazing. It's easy to understand him and all the choices he makes.
This story has a strong paranormal element. When Paul is asked to help "a friend" to sell an old mansion, the evil force takes full control of the story. The book takes elements from the local history to create a solid explanation about the events. An ancient tragedy will be the key to solve the big puzzle.
The book has a fast rhythm and the writing style makes it easy to read.
Overall, this book is a good light horror story with a strong main character and a short length.
